Now in a magazine, that too in a DEEPAVALI MALAR 2012, he wrote an article saying that old Vedic scriptures had spoken about as dharma, ASHRAMA living concept; the elders after performing the duty of marriage to children shall go to forest as couple or alone called then as VANAPRASTHAM; NOW SINCE FOREST IS EXTINCT OR FAR AWAY, OLD AGE HOME IS VANAPRASTHA; this arrangement is in order which would leave young ones peaceful life and balance of life in home would also be achieved . Both are certain STATUS, on conduct of the prescribed rules, modifiable or named after the path progressed. IT WAS NEVER SAID THAT “THAT IS THAT’ HAD TO BE. Even now our villagers call the farms and surrounding thopes (trees and plants0 as KADU, meaning FOREST. For us FOREST IS NOT FAR AWAY FROM OUR RESIDENCE. WE LIVED ORIGINALLY WITH THE “KADU AND KAZHANI” ONLY. “KADU ALSO HAS ANOTHER MEANING VIZ “BURIAL GROUND which was not far away from residence. 1 one life of Brahmachari, defined that can be till end of life
2 one life of gruhastham viz married till the end
3 one life of vana prastham with or without wife with restricted life, not tantamounting to sanyasam, but because it’s a renounced life, a step ahead of sanyasam
4 one life of sanyasam-an absolute renunciation ,can take root from Brahmachari, Gruhasthan and vana prasthan
5 a sanyasi is supposed stay as such till leaves the body but retractions is despicable but never a taboo
So too a vanaprasthan can die from home and still be an active body worker, or can remain a witness without old actions, renouncing the world affair. Can be a true Grahasthan too; THIRU NEELAKANDA NAINAR WAS A GRUHASTHAN AS WELL AS A VANA PRASTHAN AS WELL AS A SANYASI AND BY BLESSINGS OF SIVE CAME BACK TO GRUHASTHASRAMAM.
On the contrary the scriptures of the land had maintained that the Dharma of a son and daughter in law is to protect the parents of son even if in doldrums. The contrary will see to drastic consequences for failure to do so. The neethi sastra tell a lot on so many and had never said that “SEND ELDERS TO FOREST”.
